This session is "B Unique with Rose Head-Dress" - with renowned Milliner Philip Rhodes.
Phillip is known as one of Australia's Master Milliners. One of the last Australian milliners to receive traditional workshop training, Phillip developed his craft whilst working in Australia and in London.
Whilst in London, Phillip's work with Europe's largest Costumiers, Berman and Nathan saw him undertake projects for Euro-Disney, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh. A stint with English outfitter Herbert Johnston provided exposure to a celebrity clientele including Kylie Minogue, Joan Collins and Joanna Lumley just to name a few.
Phillip Rhodes Hats have been stocked in major stores across Australia since 1992 alongside Phillip’s made-to-measure practice.
Phillip continues to combine fashion headwear with an aligned career in the theatre. He is the house milliner at the Melbourne Theatre Company, Victoria Opera and The Australian Ballet.
Images of Phillip's fashion hats have been featured in Australian Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Marie Claire.
Everyone loves a french rose. Everyone buys them. Why are they then too precious to use?
In this online, interactive, live training, students will learn the ballet-way of creating a wire headdress from one continuous piece of wire that will provide the perfect platform for a silk flower to bloom.
Perfect for bridal, theatre or fashion, this stylish millinery solution provides that next-level-edge to your finished piece.
Create a nest from ribbons of veiling and pattern cut tulle, the rose hovers airily on the wire frame…add a simple loop bow or keep it plain.
Finished with finesse, a silk covered lining panel conceals the workings and speaks of couture!
Students will learn to manipulate a single piece of wire into an elegant shape that curves, squares off and soars off into flying branch.
Using the hands to spring the bandeau into life, the well-fitting, comfortable band is tulle wrapped ready for trimming.
Millinery veiling cut into ribbon shreds and gently tucked and hand stitched can be interspersed with tulle to create a romantic effect against which the rose will shine.
Finally the delicate hand stitching of a silk facing gives the headdress its final touch.
