THE WATER BASED CROSSLINK POLY VINYL ALCOHOL (PVA) IS ABLE TO BE SHIPPED.

We have 3 types of Stiffeners - Chemical based which is clear in colour and can be used on Felts and straws and Lacquer based stiffener that has been pre-mixed with Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) and is waterbased and non-toxic

CHEMICAL BASED
This specifically designed chemical based stiffener is perfect for stiffening wool and fur hat bodies as well as straws like sinamay, buntal and our paper fabrics.. For Wool and Felt - Apply a small amount to the inside of the crown, using a paint brush in a circular motion, allow to dry and then repeat until you reach the desired stiffness.  Solution dries quickly and can be diluted with a Thinner if required.
LACQUER BASED

Easy to use and quick drying with it's alcohol solvent it is a great alternative to water based stiffeners or indeed resin based stiffeners.

The finish is stiff and can also give straw and sinamay a sheen which is good. It is great with felts.
This new variety is a pale straw colour, one drawback is it will colour your white fabrics. It can be used on white as long as you are aware of this and aren't putting stiffened components with pure white where the difference will be seen. However, for everything else it is not a problem. In fact it's a good colour for making a slightly off white/ivory. Also bear in mind that both Millinery Stiffener and PVA will alter the colour of white fabrics giving them a grey tone.

 PVA

The PVA is High Strength which has greater than one part Crosslink PVA so makes a high solids content which means it has greater strength when stiffening and can be diluted 1:4 or 1:5 ratio.  It is non-flammable and non-toxic so it is safe to use and easily transported. This stiffener is used in Millinery for Straws and felts.  It is highly recommended that a small sample/area is tested first before applying stiffener to the entire area to be treated.

For those who want to stiffen thicker materials such as wool or fur felt, you may want to consider diluting the stiffener further to ensure the liquid can easily soak into the material.

Available in 250ml, 500ml and 1L, 2L & 4L quantities.
