What is Thermoplastic?
Thermoplastic, or thermosoftening plastic, is a polymer material that becomes pliable or moldable above a specific temperature and solidifies upon cooling. How to Use
Step 1: Cut your desired shape from the thermoplastic sheet using scissors or a craft knife.
Step 2: Heat the cut piece using a heat gun or carefully over a heat source until it becomes pliable (test temperature first).
Step 3: Quickly shape the softened plastic over molds, by hand, or with tools to create your desired form.
Step 4: Hold in place while cooling (usually 30-60 seconds) until the shape sets permanently.
Step 5: Attach to your millinery base using stitching, wire, or strong adhesive.

Design Tips
Create realistic flower petals by cutting petal shapes and heating them over rounded molds or spoons. Layer multiple petals in graduating sizes for dimensional flowers. For leaves, cut leaf shapes and use a stylus or blunt tool to create vein details while the plastic is warm. The metallic finish looks stunning when combined with crystals, pearls, or contrasting matte materials.
Safety & Care
Always work in a well-ventilated area when heating thermoplastic. Test temperature on scrap pieces first to avoid overheating. Use heat-resistant gloves or tools when shaping hot plastic. Store flat in a cool, dry place away from heat sources. The finished embellishments are durable and maintain their shape indefinitely.
A versatile material for milliners seeking to create custom metallic embellishments with professional results and permanent shape retention.
